Tips
The idea of this page is to record the solutions to various problems I've had over the years,
as well as to summarise other tips or possible solutions that I read about while trying to fix
one myself. Don't take any of it as gospel - usually I only delve into the way things work
enough to fix things for myself - and many of the tips here did not work for me but are just suggestions
other people gave to other people with similar problems. As an example, I just spent two full days trying to fix this problem and get my system back to it's previous state. Many other people have had similar problems but none of their solutions helped me, so I've summarised here what may have helped them, and what ended up helping me. As a note, if you are having some problem and are searching on the web for messages from other people who have had similar problems, don't overlook the newsgroups. Try searching on groups.google.com. For the abovementioned problem I only found about 3 messages on online forums/mailing lists about the error message I had - but many more by searching the newsgroups. |
